Stops on the magnificent Iceland Highway include: Bow Lake, Peyto Lake and Athabasca Falls. Rest stop at Sunwapta bakery for lunch or bring snacks. Check into the amazing Sawridge Inn. Jasper is a part of UNESCO’s World Heritage sites. It’s a wildlife-rich version of the other Rocky Mountain Parks with its rugged backcountry, teeming with bears, elk, moose and caribou. Jasper is more remote, smaller and laid back than Banff and renowned for its wildlife viewing as you are on the road. Check into our hotel and take some time to relax before dinner. Overnight in Jasper.

Day 3: Jasper to Maligne Canyon and Lake Cruise

This morning we will drive to Maligne Canyon to experience this magnificent work of nature. We will hike through beautiful rock formations, bridges, deep canyons and waterfalls. There are different trails, but this can be an easy hike or longer if you choose. Then we will go on our Cruise on Maligne Lake. Declared “Best Boat Cruise” in Canada – it is an experience like no other. The guide will tell the history and explain the geology and the wildlife. We will cruise to Spirit Island, a “world famous” destination, only accessible by boat. This island is a tiny grove of trees and pristine nature, separated from the mainland. You will have some time to walk around the island. The scenery here is just spectacular. Late afternoon is leisure time. Evening is free (Will give out list of restaurants and bars). Overnight in Jasper.

Optional Activities:

Day 4: Iconic Glacier Adventure (2-3 Hours)

We will drive back down Iceland Highway for our Glacier Ice Tour. Again, we get to experience the other side of this drive of a lifetime. On our full day journey, witness the evidence left behind by many ice ages, icy blue glaciers that cling to the face of several majestic mountains and deep blue lakes. Board a specially designed Ice Explorer bus and ride up onto the glacier, passing an ancient forest and spectacular viewpoints. Then, step out on the glacier itself, which is the largest accumulation of ice south of the Arctic. The exhilaration of walking on a glacier is tremendous.

A highlight of the day is the engineering wonder, Glacier Skywalk, on a glass-floored observation platform over the Sunwapta Valley. Step into a world where glaciers rest above, and birds soar below. Photograph waterfalls, wildlife and more on an exciting cliff-edge walkway that leads to a platform where glass is all that separates you from a 918-foot drop! If you are not into heights, you can still view from a lookout point nearby. On the return, be on the lookout for wildlife including elk, moose, bighorn sheep, black bear and coyote. Capture wonderful photos. You will be talking about this experience for the rest of your life! Arrive back into Banff and check into the Banff Aspen Lodge where we will stay for the remainder of our trip.

Day 5: Wildlife Tour and Gondola Ride

Uncover the secrets of Banff, an historic mountain haven, with our local guide leading the way. Gaze at stunning views, stroll down spectacular trails and hear legends of Banff’s past. The town filled with culture and history, is surrounded by an untamed wilderness. Hear stories of 11,000 years of history, hidden in these rugged hills. We’ll stop at the iconic Banff Springs Hotel, Bow Falls, Lake Minnewanka and the “oh wow” view at Surprise Corner! We will venture down peaceful pine-scented trails and learn about the wildlife habitat. Our tour ends in downtown where we will have free time for lunch and shopping.

Later in the day, glide on the Banff Gondola, up over the treetops to a jaw-dropping mountaintop experience at 7,486 feet. Soar to the top of Sulphur Mountain and appreciate a stunning birds-eye view of six incredible mountain ranges, with breathtaking vistas in every direction. More adventurous hikers can try the South East Ridge Trail that runs along the ridge of the mountain, taking you to Sulphur Mountain’s true summit. Then we will go to Moraine Lake located in the incredible Valley of the 10 Peaks. This alpine lake looks too beautiful to be real. You can choose times and activities. If you want to hike in Moraine Lake, you will need more time (45 minute hike) or just go to viewpoints and/or lodge with bakery and deli. 4) Take a canoe ride for an hour: $95.00

Day 8: Rafting and Hot Springs or Cave and Basin Site

The Canadian Rockies offers rafting in both mild and wild rivers for every level of adventure! Experience a great morning of rafting, one of the highlights of our trip. The best part is you get to choose your adventure speed. The Kananaskis river is just a beautiful easy river paddle ride. The Kicking Horse River white water is a class 3 and 4 wild rafting experience! Afternoon at leisure. Take this opportunity to visit the Banff Upper Hot Springs and relax and soak in the steamy hot mineral water where travelers have come for over 100 years. The elevation of Banff Upper Hot Springs, at 5,200 feet makes it the highest in Canada.

Your other choice is to walk over to the Cave and Basin National Historic Site. Two interpretive boardwalk trails explain the history of the area, and the fascinating plants and animals that flourish in these warm springs habitat. This place is very cool!
